Some Injuries Are More Serious Than They Seem

For an attorney, winning a settlement for a catastrophic injury, such as paralysis or a lost limb, may seem relatively straightforward. The jury can see the damage before their eyes, and it is not hard for them to understand the pain, suffering and change in lifestyle that the injuries have caused the plaintiff.

However, some serious injuries are not so apparent. For example, a past client had a neck injury that normally would have warranted a settlement of about $15,000. Yet, he ended up being awarded $500,000 because the injury ended his ability to perform a specific requirement of his work. In a similar situation, another client hurt his back and in the process had to end his decades-long career as a package handler, and was awarded over $500,000.

For example, in a chiropractic treatment, soft tissue injury case, where the insurance company offered nothing to settle the case, the jury awarded my client $90,000. In another soft tissue injury case, in which the insurance company offered my client nothing, because they claimed that he was at fault, and sued him for their insured’s property damage, the jury awarded my client $84,000.
